Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Tacna

The Decentralized Cultural Department of Tacna is an organ of the Ministry of Culture that is responsible, within the region, to act for and on behalf of the Ministry of Culture. Its main function is the implementation of the guidelines of cultural policy and techniques derived from these actions, in accordance with sectoral and regional plans in the cultural field. Furthermore, the CDD Tacna manage Public Library, the Regional History Museum and the Museum of Peañas.

Organization DRC Tacna

The DRC consists of Tacna departments of Archaeological Heritage, Heritage, Arts and Cultural Industries, Administration, General Counsel. As support offices are the Secretary and Treasurer. The DDC also is responsible for the operation of the Historical Museum, the Museum and the Public Library Peañas.

Historical Museum

It was created in 1957 in the government of President Manuel Prado and consists of two rooms. The first one that highlights the era of emancipation and independence, which are observed in bronze busts of some heroes of Independence refers to the emancipation and the offering made ​​to Francisco Antonio de Zela, Jose Enrique and Rosa Ara Pallardelli highlights and copies paintings Bolivar and San Martin

In the second room, which corresponds to the Republican era, explains the events of the War of the Pacific with three oil paintings depicting patriotic scenes Llepiani: The response Bolognesi, the Battle of Arica and the decision of Alfonso Ugarte. Also replica watches scale monitor Huascar, documents and weapons belonging to national combatants.

Peañas Museum

The area is located was excavated between 1981-1982 rescuing 56 graves, which are classified as pits and cists. Its cultural affiliation corresponds to the period of late regional developments (1000-1445 ADC) and Inca times, some objects or cultural materials dating from the beginning of the colony. 

The Museum houses cultural elements of the department chronologically corresponds to findings from the early days (8000 years old) until recently, for example projectile points and lithic artifacts from Toquepala and research at sites corresponding to different times until the arrival of the Spaniards.
